The Basic Plot In The Form of Haiku: Scotland, heroin/a soundtrack with Iggy Pop/Sick Boy's kinda cute.
My Basic Ramblings: I saw this movie and of course was inspired to go out and start my own little heroin addiction. No, not really. But wouldn't that tell ol' Bob Dole he was right? Anyway, this movie has the distinction of being the first movie I bought on laserdisc. (One of the perks of when I marry Chris is that I get free use of his laserdisc player. Woo-hoo!) Then, in my little obsessive nature, I also bought the soundtrack, the screenplay, and the novel by Irvine Welsh that I got about half-way through before I gave up. (Here's a sample of text...well, I'd give you one if I could find the book. I can't right now. Suffice it to say that you have to read the book out loud to understand it.)
Everyone talks about how difficult it is to understand what they're saying in the film, how they had to redub the first twenty minutes for the US release. Well, on the laserdisc, it's undubbed, and you know what? It's not that difficult to understand. I don't know if the powers that be think we're stupid, or what, but anyway, I didn't have a problem comprehending it.
The soundtrack rocks, Baby Dawn's really freaky, and I recommend this movie to everyone. Well, maybe not everyone. Pat Buchanan probably wouldn't like it.
